If these walls could talk . . . (100th post!)

They'd probably be screaming right now. Kitchen Remodel '08 has officially begun. First step: remove all the wainscotting from the walls. Because we live in a ~90 year old house (plaster walls) removing wainscotting is no easy task. Sometimes the plaster came off as the wood was removed, other times we had to chistle it off with a hammer and 7-in-1 tool. We expected to find lathe around the entire kitchen, but the exterior walls had some sort of pressed fiber board with cement and plaster over it. Once the plaster came down the fiber board was very flimsy, so it had to go too. Will worked out a system where he simply cut sections of the wall out and them ripped it down while I vacuumed out the old insulation. Always wear your PPE! We have quite a lot of work left. Every weekend between now and the end of October is booked with kitchen work or travel. Last but not least, since it's my 100th post, I'm going to be doing a give-away. Taxi Tote

As soon as I saw the hexagon-patched Taxi Tote on Anna Maria Horner's blog , I knew I had to make it. Luckily, I received the pattern for Christmas (from the book Seams to Me ). After placing an order for a Fabric Stack I was ready to begin. It look about an afternoon to cut out all the hexagons and pattern pieces (I used 6 of the 8 fabrics). It took several hours to sew together all the hexagons. I started by sewing them into strips, then it got a little harder. After much 'googling' I just decided to wing it and ended up sewing each individual side as in independent seam - backstitching at each end. I could then reposition and pin the next side. This resulted in hexagons that were mostly 'square' and met up at the corners. After my 'hexagon fabric' was complete, it was time for top-stitching. I decided I wanted to top stitch each individual hexagon in a coordinating thread. I think I used 4 different colors all together - that took another couple of hou

Catch-Up

Things have been a whirlwind lately - work is crazy, we've been traveling, the kitchen is still a mess , and I have done very little in the way of crafting in the last couple of weeks. Those crafts I have finished ( Celia's winning prize , Michelle's b-day gift) - I can't seem to get to the post office before they close to actually mail them out. So, here's a sneak peak: Trio of Pin-cushions made just for Celia I also made a Jasmine sachet for Michelle using the same pattern and the green fabric seen above.
